Theme: Support
“Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.” or “ How are you doing?”
Sometimes, after a loss, you don’t know what you need. Therefore, you don’t know what can be done for you.
If someone were to respond with
Can you breathe for me?
Can you think for me?
Can you just sit with me… Don’t talk. Don’t move. Don’t try to fix me. Just sit with me.
Can you remind me ‘tomorrow’ is coming and I’m Not Alone?
People would think you were being sarcastic or mean.
Sometimes, after a loss, you don’t know how you’re doing. Sometimes, you’re existing in an unexpected indescribable fog with no words in your vocabulary to clearly express your physical, mental, and spiritual state of being…
Support is not always about providing answers to the ‘hard’ or ‘unspoken’ questions…
Sometimes support is:
Showing up when the presence of another is needed
A prayer
A text
An image
A shared silence
Evidence that you are not alone
And what may be needed most is understanding it takes extreme effort to live with HeartAche + the realization of life as you knew it has changed and Normal means something totally different.
From my heart to yours,
Dianne Lawson 💞
